OUR ARchitectural SERVICES
Whether we are designing a custom new home, renovating an older or historic building, or trying our hand at a creative commercial endeavor, we employ the same attentive care to every project.
custom residences
Designing a new custom home is a very personal process. It calls for imagination, patience, a collective vision, and a thorough understanding of those who will call it home.
Renovations
Expanding and remodeling breathes new life into homes, allowing houses to adapt to changing lifestyles. In every home, we create an integrated, harmonious marriage of old and new.
historic RENOVATIONS
Historic structures require thoughtful consideration and creative design strategy to incorporate modern conveniences while respecting the craftsmanship and integrity of the original design.

While we call Los Angeles home, we get around—whether it is across town or farther afield. With today’s technology, collaborating with clients in Texas, New York or San Francisco is nearly as effective as being there in person. Adapting to the scale and context of neighborhoods on the Westside, Eastside and around the country challenges us to expand our knowledge and broaden our design sensibilities.
Designing for kids
Some of our favorite and most challenging clients are kids. From playroom lofts to hidden tunnels to top-secret nooks, we tap into our inner child to design spaces kids will flip for. By working closely with parents and brainstorming with children, we create inventive rooms that fulfill our clients’ needs and their kids’ wildest dreams.
“When I started this firm 25 years ago as a sole proprietor, I wore all the hats,” recalls our principal architect and studio namesake, Tim Barber. As his work garnered attention and projects increased in number, scale, and scope, Tim’s team grew from himself to the 20 architects, designers, and administrative support staff that now buzz around our recently expanded Los Angeles studio.
“It’s hard to imagine that fifteen years ago, we filled only a third of this office, and that I used to do the designing, field work, training, management, and invoicing myself,” Tim reminisces.
