The coastal cottage's renovated kitchen features a cathedral ceiling clad in beadboard and accented by skylights that illuminate the tall space and give it a sense of lightness.  Adding to this airy aura are the white subway-tiled walls off of which the light bounces, the white cabinetry, and the marble countertops.  Herringbone patterned hardwood floors add a pop of color and whimsy to the kitchen.  Renovated by Los Angeles architecture firm Tim Barber Ltd., with interior design by Kristen Panitch Interiors. Coastal Cottage Renovation

We had worked with the current owners on two of their earlier homes. Coincidentally, their new home was one we had worked on ten years prior for earlier owners. We also had long history with the interior designer, the landscape architect and the builder. This happy reunion made our expansion and reinvention of the home pure joy.

The most extraordinary creation is the kitchen. A sunny, vaulted space with tools for haute cuisine, this room sets the bar high for serious entertaining. Ample work surfaces and convenient storage, including gorgeous stainless steel cabinetry, make cooking an adventure. Significant additions to the rest of the house include a tree-top office for her and a book-lined study for him. The new second-floor family room leads to an under-the-eaves bar for indoor entertaining.  For outdoor gatherings, an outdoor kitchen, dining and fireplace terraces and pool cabana take full advantage of the friendly Southern California climate.
